Torry A. Johnson

• Torry Johnson currently serves as the National Manager for Minority University Research & Education Project within NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement. This existing role builds upon an already rich career at the space agency.
• Torry most recently functioned as an Assistant Deputy Director in Earth Sciences at the Goddard Space Flight Center for over 10 years with the managerial oversight of the day to day operations in the Hydrosphere, Biosphere and Geophysics organization. His purview extended to multiple, research-based cooperative agreements, support service contracts, and broadly focused IT efforts.
Prior to joining the Federal government, Torry enjoyed working in private industry honing his business analytic skills. Spending years with the likes of the TriZetto Group managing CareFirst BCBS, USAToday and Allstate allowed him to become well versed in finding business solutions for sundry, corporate sectors.
When not tending to the affairs of the internal or external clients, Torry lead the educational efforts aimed at students for approximately 10 years at a local, mega church. Creating innovative programming for the 10K plus-member congregation allowed him to foster and develop strong relationships inside and out of the community to aid students and families with tutoring, academic enrichment, college planning and financial aid.
Torry continues to mentor and coach colleagues around the country in professional development and organizational behavior.
Torry received his Bachelors from Syracuse University and a Masters in Public Management from the University of Maryland, College Park. He and his wife of almost 25 years, reside in the suburbs outside of Washington, DC and have 3 adult children.
