About Mt. Lebanon CDC

THE  EVOLUTION  OF  A  COMMUNITY

The Mt. Lebanon Community DC (CDC) was established in 2006, under the leadership of Pastor H. Lionel Edmonds, Pastor of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. It was Pastor Edmonds vision to enhance local civic life by developing affordable housing within the  immediate area, educating the underserved about health and wellness, job training  and workforce development. The Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church purchased the historic apartment building known as The Oakmont, a crack infested building located directly across the street from the Church. The Church later sold the Oakmont to the CDC for it’s first multi-use affordable housing development, with offices for small business, a training facility, and neighborhood community space for meetings and small gatherings.

Since its founding, the CDC – worked with the church and local neighborhood partners to provide job training, computer education, and life-skills training to disadvantaged members of the community, particularly in the distressed Shaw and Northwest One neighborhoods.

With the completion of the Oakmont under the leadership of CDC President Buddy Lee, the CDC recognized the lack of affordable housing options for seniors living in neighboring Shaw/Mt. Vernon Square.  In 2011, Johnny Holiday was elected the CDC President.  The CDC entered into a partnership Mission First-Housing Group and,Urban Matters-Development Partners L.L.C. to develop the former MM Washington School located at 27 O Street NW. as an 82 unit senior (age 55 and older) affordable housing facility with 12,000sf of community space for senior programs. The new senior facility open its doors for occupancy in December 2013 and has been renamed “House of Lebanon” Given the changing demographics of the neighborhood, the Mt. Lebanon Community DC  is extremely gratified to be able to help long time District of Columbia Senior Residents remain in the  neighborhood. Our seniors can now “age in place” within the neighborhood where they lived and raised their children. The House of Lebanon is managed by Columbus Property Management and Development INC.

VISION

The journey to complete  the House of Lebanon was long, the work was hard and although the Mt. Lebanon Community DC is satisfied with the results, we feel that our work is not yet complete.  As such, the Mt. Lebanon Community DC is currently evaluating other senior housing projects and the possibility of expanding our Vision to provide affordable housing for Veterans and their families. Within 8 years, the Mt. Lebanon Community DC takes pride in the  development of 86 affordable housing units within the immediate neighborhood. Our mission continues.
